Musée Louvre-Lens

COMPETITION with SANAA

Scheduled to Open 2009

Lens, France

The new satellite of the Louvre will consist of gently warped pavilions in a 153 acre former mining site. The roof is glazed with variable angled louvers, creating a pixilated contour drawing. The ethereal quality of the brushed aluminum and glass façade, and the curvature of the pavilions will create blurred reflections of the landscape that speaks to the mission of Louvre-Lens: to question perception and to teach how to look at art anew.
