Japan Society - Cross Currents
Opened 1999
New York, New York
73 individual works from China, Korea, and Japan, owned by private New
York collectors. Works ranged from ancient bronzes and wooden Buddhas
to an ox horn chest and a pair of twenty-foot-long screens. The design
aimed to create a dramatic yet subdued setting of diffused light to best
offset the magnificent objects, and featured wall and table cases and
an elaborate tearoom installation.
