Hell's Kitchen Competition
2000
Hells Kitchen South, New York, NY
Commissioned by the Design
Trust for Public Space, Floating City investigates Hell's Kitchen South's
unique urban conditions, using the neighborhood as a testing ground for
many of the issues surrounding the 21st C. city, including the role of
infrastructure, the boundary between public and private, and the identity
of a neighborhood. Floating City defines three
areas of intervention: 1) Hell's Park: a park to balance the noise
and pollution, 2) Signal City: buildings to act as a
billboard for the neighborhood, 3) Zoning for Voids: green
"Gap Gardens" into development. |
