New York Public Library - Utopia
2000
New York, New York
The “Utopia” exhibition,
which was co-sponsored by the Bibliothèque Nationale de France,
was organized into thematic units: Sources, Other Worlds, and Utopia in
History. Our installation represented the theme of Utopia as a journey
without a specific end. Instead of displaying the valuable first editions
of utopic literature, we chose to have contemporary copies of the books
in open shelves for anyone to pick up and read, presenting a
cultural transparency of literature, compared to the political and social
utopias represented by the rest of the exhibition. |
